Please add my friend Terrie to our prayer concerns. She's been diagnosed with late stage lyme disease. She's in constant, horrible pain that is going through her whole body. It's most intense around her joints. The doctors are still trying to figure out how to help her but in the meantime, all they are giving her is Tylenol for the pain and that's just not doing anything. Prayers will be greatly appreciated.

I had asked for prayers for my co-worker's son (Joshua) last week. He is out of intensive care and is home recuperating, however, they still do not know the cause of his symptoms (multiple blood clots in his lungs). He has difficulty breathing, is weak, exhausted and is unable to work. The prognosis is that he can be out of work anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months, depending on how he responds to treatment. To make matters worse, he and his wife have no health insurance and, as they reside in Pennsylvania, they have no short-term disability benefits. His wife doesn't work. They have a 7 month old infant at home.

A few good things are that they live with relatives who will help them out with groceries and his employer will help with utilities. However, they have a car payment, student loans and a credit card bill. (By the way, the doctor who treated him told him that if he had waited two more days before seeking treatment, he would have died.)

I can't imagine facing this kind of situation. Not knowing what kind of medical issue they are dealing with, or for how long, is bad enough...but the finances are the icing on the cake.

Please pray for the entire situation.

Many of you have asked for updates about Jim and Louise Palm. This morning, I received the following email through the wonders of technology and Presbyterian connectionalism. It will come as no surprise that, despite difficult challenges, Jim and Louise are thinking and planning positively. Here's the news as I received it through Raquel and Tony Welty, who received it through friends:

"Louise and Jim are together a Franciscan Rehabilitation Center near Chicago, as Jim described it, is a beautiful center, like SPC, with facilities for conferences, but also with rehabilitation, spiritual support and medical care.

"Jim is recovering from his two broken ribs, with controlled pain from lesions. He has an excellent spirit, full of gratitude to a God that provided protection to the family in a very serious accident. He was driving his sister's car. Somebody hit them.

"Louise is recovering, with proper medicine, exercise and care from the fracture of her pelvis in three places. Her pain is being controlled with medicines. On Monday Louise will see the doctor and will be told if rehabilitation could be continued from their home in Wisconsin. Louise is determined to walk again with the support of an admirably strength and spirit, determination and by all means her faith and our prayers. Jim and Louise are both in an excellent high spirit and full of gratitude and hope. Having survived the accident, they consider, was an act of a merciful God.

"The whole family, children, and extended family, now all together, will celebrate Jim's birthday on Monday, August 9th in the Center where they are staying. They don't have access to emails, and because they hope to go home soon they are not expecting cards, letters or telephone calls. They know and feel that we, all together, are with them in love and support. They ask for our prayers and continue loving support that they feel is surrounding them.

"They are expecting to come to their home in Cornwall in September to finalize previous arrangements and plans.

"We all feel, with them, that we too are part of their family, in loving and caring mystical love in God's mercy."

Ginger Monahan died Friday evening peacefully at home. Visitation will be at the church 5:00pm - 7:00pm, followed by a funeral service at 7:00pm, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall at 7:30pm.

Ginger was a Deacon, a member of the Prayer Shawls group, and an avid supporter of scouting, as well as a great mother, and grandmother. We will all miss her energy, incredible smile, her sense of humor , and her love!

Mary Irene Antona of Washingtonville entered into rest on May 23, 2010 at home. She was 86.

She was born in Susquehanna, PA on July 13, 1923 to Joseph and Hazel DeGarmo.

She graduated from Matamoras High School in 1941 and attended Fordham University School of Nursing and Graduated Middletown State Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. Mary enjoyed a 40-year career as a registered nurse at Goshen Hospital and Arden Hill Hospital.

Mary was the widow of Piero Antona.

She is survived by her children: Peter Antona and his wife, Connie of Goshen, Kathryn McAfee of Centerville, OH, Thomas Antona and his wife, Janet of Slate Hill, Mark Antona of Highland, Drew Antona and his girlfriend, Jessica Cantalupo of Washingtonville and daughter-in-law, Lori Antona of Washingtonville; brother, William DeGarmo and his wife, Shirley of Matamoras, PA; grandchildren: Samantha and Sydney Antona of Highland, Abby and Juliann Antona of Washingtonville, Seth, Kimberly, Justin and Krista Antona of Slate Hill, Patrick McAfee of Centerville, OH, Danielle McAfee Taylor and her husband, Brian of Quincy, MA, Courtney Antona, Meghan Antona Goldsmith and her husband, Christopher of Washingtonville; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Lawrence Brown.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 26, from 6-9 p.m. at David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North St., Washingtonville.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 27, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Washingtonville.

This morning my Mom was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern...The preliminary diagnosis is COPD with possible slight pneumonia...possible heart issues...More tests are pending...As of right now, she will be hospitalized at least until Monday. Of course, tragic as it is, this has brought my brother and I back together...and I believe the healing process has begun...(somewhat bittersweet)So...I have both a JOY about my brother and I and a REAL CONCERN for the situation with my Mom...She is presently on oxygen...I don't know what's ahead... Prayers for my cousin, Donna. She was experiencing a very rapid heart rate. When doctor's administered medication, they lost her heart beat. They were able to get her back to 50 beats per minute but she's in her early 50's and she's having a pacemaker put in tomorrow. Also, prayers for her daughter, Caitlyn. One of her kidney's was damaged during a recent medical test. Both Donna and her daughter, Caitlyn, are supposed to be traveling from Virginia, where they live, to Pennsylvania, for Caitlyn's meeting with a kidney specialist sometime later this month. We hope Donna will be well enough to travel safely too.

A friend of our family's little girl is 5 years old, and has a rare kind of cancer. She has a tumor growing in her lung. She has been fighting for a year already, doing Chemo until the tumor was small enough to remove along with her lung. But the day before the surgery was to happen, the doctors saw that the tumor had grown. So now they are doing another round of a different kind of chemo, and prayers would be greatly appreciated. Her name is Elle, and she is the feistiest little girl! Please pray that the tumor shrinks and they can remove all of it and she can go back to being a healthy little girl.

I am feeling better and can at least move about without excruciating pain. The results of the MRI indicate I have two herniated disks(the bad news). I will meet this Thursday with a pain management specialist and a physical therapist to map out a course of action(no surgery for now- the good news). I am anxious to begin therapy so I can get back to work soon and possibly get away from all of the medications I'm taking. Prayers for healing are certainly appreciated as well as prayers for Beth.

Ben will be having thumb surgery Tuesday at St Anthony's Hospital. Ben managed to chip the end of the bone and the tissue missing is rather irregular so the Dr. said he needs to replace the tissue at the end of the thumb or he will not have any feeling there. He will cut down each side of the thumb and pull the loose skin up over the end and stitch it under the nail. He feels it will be successful. He said after a while the skin will stretch and he will have full or close to full flexibility again. We wouldn't mind prayers on his behalf for successful surgery and healing.

David is very sick and is now home with hospice care and under the watchful eye of his daughter Sue, a nurse. He is in his last days. Keep David, his children and their families in your prayers.

Thank you for all your prayers for Jim, Judy's brother-in-law. He is now home after the second surgery and the brain tumor is gone! He will be recovering at home with his wife, Judy's sister and his new baby Rachel and daughter Juliana! The journey is not over but he is recovering! Keep praying!

10/3 Jim went in for brain surgery this morning (Thursday) about 8:00 am at Rush Copley. During surgery the doctors realized the tumor was larger than they initially thought. In addition, they ran into some minor complications and had to close Jim up sooner than expected. As a result, Jim will have to return for surgery again in a few weeks after recovering from this operation.

Understandably, the family is a little discouraged since they will have to repeat the process again soon, but thankful the doctors were able to get 75 percent of the tumor. Please continue to pray for peace for the family, and for wisdom for the doctors as they proceed. Allyson welcomes visitors in the ICU at Rush Copley, but Jim is resting and will not be receiving visitors this evening. Jim and Allyson were able to talk in the ICU after the surgery. They thank you for your prayer.

My sister and her husband, who ahs MS and is in a wheelchair, are off to see their daughter in Pennsylvania (they live near Rochester) and have asked for prayer.

Marty and I are traveling for the 1st time to see Julie in Pittsburgh. Yeah! Please pray for safe travel to our destination and home again and good health all the while. We leave on Thursday am and arrive home on Sunday.

The girls were friends with some of our Sunday School kids, and the family were neighbors to others. Today is my mother-in-law's surgery...not sure what it's called, but arteries in her neck are blocked...70% on right side and 90% on left....they will tackle the left side today in Good Sams (which is where they took her to yesterday). I will spend the day with my father-in-law at his house with everything he is going through, they opted to not tell him about the surgery (he seizures when he worries). Thanks all!!

Joanne: My friend is still suffering horribly from cancer/treatments. She is home but the treatments haven't relieved her pain and she is extremely uncomfortable.

Margaret: This is a woman who has been especially kind to me. She is hospitalized with cancer as well. She has not been eating or drinking. She's hooked up intravenously. She's not interested in anything...reading, watching TV, etc. She's had various surgeries and starts treatment tomorrow.

Sue is in Washinton/Maryland and saw Peter today. He is still fighting what appears to be a viral pneumonia, is sedated and has a breathing tube. He is being well cared for at Georgetown MC and now Deb and the kids are being cared for by Sue and Nancy (Steve's wife). Sue and Nancy will be there until the weekend or so when sisters Sandy and Pam will arrive in relief. Prayers are still needed and desired. Thanks to all of you for your faithfulness!

Sue's brother Peter isn't better, but Sue and sister-in-law Nancy have arrived to help. Pray for Peter, Deb, kids and Sue and Nancy!
